One Day in Damyang, South Korea: All of the Best Things to Do

Metasequoia Path in Damyang - Lost With Jen

Damyang is one of my favorite cities in Korea. The whole city is surrounded by huge bamboo forests, grape vineyards, and gorgeous tea fields. It’s home to some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, the whole area seemed so relaxed, and the locals were all so friendly! These are all of the best things to do for one day in Damyang, South Korea.

One Day in Damyang

Juknokwon Bamboo Forest

If you only have one day in Damyang, one of the things you must do is check out the Juknokwon Bamboo Forest (Jungnogwon Bamboo Garden on Naver). I can’t even begin to explain how gorgeous this place is; it’s by far one of my favorite spots in Korea!

I would highly recommend heading to the Bamboo Forest first thing in the morning as it tends to get really busy very quick. Even when the park is busy, though, you’re still likely to have a lot of the trails all to yourself. It’s easy to get lost on the trails (which is not a bad thing!) but you are provided with a map when you arrive which makes it much easier to navigate.

Meta Provence

After your morning stroll through the Bamboo Forest, head over to the Meta Provence. The Meta Provence is a unique little village full of colorful shops, cafes, and tons of great photo spots. There are plenty of ice cream and dessert shops but there are also a few great Korean restaurants where you can stop for lunch as well.

Even if you visit during the summer, it’s likely to still be decorated for Christmas (I was there in May and saw Santa everywhere!). I thought it was so fun and unique; this village is definitely a must-see when you come to Damyang. Don’t forget to try some bamboo ice cream while you’re here!

Bonus Tip: Find the emart and head to the rooftop of the upstairs cafe. There’s a unique photo spot at the top!

Metasequoia Path

The Metasequioa Path is right across the street from the Meta Provence so after you enjoy your lunch (and some bamboo ice cream!), head over here for a lovely afternoon walk. If you’re driving, you can leave your car in the same parking lot.

The Metasequoia Path (also called Metasequoia Land) is one of the most beautiful walkways I’ve ever seen! It’s even been the filming location for multiple k-drama movies and television shows and there are signs that will point out the filming locations along the way. The pathway is fairly long and you could easily spend an hour or two just walking and enjoying the scenery.

Admission to the walkway is 2,000 KRW (less than 2 USD) and tickets can be purchased at the entrance (right across the street from Meta Provence). There are quite a few art installations worth checking out along the walkway including hand-painted art, statues, and sculptures. For me, the best part was just how calm and peaceful it was walking alongside those humongous trees.

Korea Bamboo Museum

It’s only right to visit the Korea Bamboo Museum in an area surrounded by so much bamboo! It’s a smaller museum but it still has two entire floors worth of exhibits and artifacts. Outside of the museum, there are multiple souvenir shops where you can find local goods made of bamboo as well as a couple cafes.

Myeongokheon Garden

If you visit at the right time of year, this garden is filled with beautiful, colorful flowers. It’s a bit in the middle of nowhere so it’s best to visit this garden if you’re driving. You’ll likely feel like you’re going the wrong way on the drive here but you’re not! It’s located at the end of a small residential neighborhood. All of the locals were friendly and most smiled and waved as we drove through.

Yongheungsa Temple

On the final stop of your one day in Damyang, head to the Yongheungsa Temple. It’s only about a 20 minute drive from most of the other attractions in Damyang. It took a few narrow winding roads to get there but it was worth it! The whole area around the temple is beautiful as it’s surrounded by gorgeous mountains and lakes. The temple itself is beautiful. It had many stairways, walkways, and buildings and it even has it’s own cafe at the top of the hill!

What a fun day! Love the bamboo forest and the temples. And definitely love a place that’s ready for Christmas all year round!
