The Gamcheon Culture Village is a unique and colorful mountainside neighborhood in Busan. The village is known for its bright and colorful homes and buildings, fun cafes and restaurants, and tons of creative art designs. You’ll find so many different sculptures, paintings, and even amazing viewpoints throughout the neighborhood.

If you start your day at the tourist information office, you’ll be able to purchase a map for 2,000 KRW (about 2 USD). The maps are super useful for finding all of the best spots. There are three different routes suggested on the map for visiting all of the top spots. The maps also allow you to collect stamps from different areas (called stamp zones) throughout the village. If you collect enough stamps, you can receive two free postcards. It’s a really fun way to make sure you visit all of the must-see places!

Tips for Visiting

  • Be respectful when visiting the village. These homes belong to real people and since they are welcoming you into their neighborhood, you should show some respect while walking through. Don’t be overly noisy, don’t litter, and definitely —
  • Visit early in the morning. If you come before the shops open you’ll likely have the whole place mostly to yourself. This way, you can explore and get some great photos and then enjoy some of the cafes as they start opening up.
  • Wear comfortable shoes! You could easily spend a few hours walking around the village. The whole neighborhood is filled with steep stairs and twisting walkways so make sure you wear comfy shoes, otherwise, you’ll be miserable!
  • Buy the map from the information center when you arrive. It only costs a couple of dollars and it will make it so much easier for you to find all of the spots you want to see!
