Themed cafes are huge in South Korea and especially in Seoul. Many of the cafes let you spend time with different animals while you’re there. My favorite? The cat cafe! You get to play with adorable kitties while you enjoy a drink. There are actually a few different cat cafes in Seoul but we went to the one in the Myeongdong district. There is always someone in the street dressed in a cat costume handing out flyers and they will point you in the right direction.
The Myeongdong Cat Cafe
Unfortunately, many of the animal cafes in Seoul don’t seem to take the best care of the animals. We went to the Raccoon Cafe in Hongdae and you could just tell that they weren’t happy. They all just wanted to be left alone and to make it worse, they had little kids smothering them with attention because the parents weren’t paying attention to them. It absolutely broke my heart to see. Many people do not support this type of cafe for that reason (which I totally understand).

I’m happy to say that this cat cafe was not like that. All of the kitties seemed very happy and playful and truly loved the attention. Many of them were even following people around purring and rubbing on their legs. They were definitely happy. You can even pay a little extra for treats to give to the cats if you’d like. Trust me, they will love you for this!
There are even posters on one of the walls with photos of all of the cats and their names. I thought it was so cute! We loved being able to know their names, especially when we ended up having a few favorites!
Bonus: Lint rollers are provided for you to use before you leave. Any pet owner knows how necessary this is, haha!

This is one of the cafes that I will definitely be back to. Am I slightly biased because I’m a cat lady? Possibly. But, I’m fine with that. The cats were so adorable (especially the lazy, sleepy ones) and it was great to see how happy and well taken care of they were.
Things to Know Before Your Visit:
- Location: Myeongdong District, Seoul.
- Admission: about 10,000 KRW which includes a drink.
- Rules: you cannot pick the cats up, you must be careful with the ones wearing blue scarves, and you must put your belongings inside of a large white bag (which is provided) so that none of the cats can destroy your things.

I LOVE the wall with the photos of cats with hats. They appear vaguely annoyed! Somehow, when I was in Japan, I visited other animal cafes but not cat cafes — probably because many of them are popping up in the Seattle area.

They probably hated the hats haha! And I’ve been to tons of the different animal cafes in Seoul but I’m a cat lady so I HAD to go to this one!
Awww! This is so adorable. I love cats and I would love to pet them all the time. Wish we had cat café in Ljubljana again. So glad that these cats were happy, that means that the owners really love them and don’t do this just for the money.
